The Queens Hotel are members of COAST (Cornwall Sustainable Tourism
Project)
Below are the key areas we working in to help the environment and
local suppliers.
Energy - First Hotel in Cornwall to embrace Solar Energy
Solar water heating system to supply hot water to showers, bathrooms and the Hotel kitchens. This enables us
to save over 10 tonnes on carbon emissions every year.
The Queens Hotel use low energy light bulbs where ever
possible.
Water
Hotel uses 'save a flush' which saves one litre of water with every toilet flush
For a hotel of our size we are saving over 100.000 gallons of
water a year.
Food miles
Our objective is to keep our food miles to a minimum
Vegetables – supplied daily from our local farmer
in St Hilary near Marazion Cornwall
Distance travelled - under 4 miles from the hotel.
Meat – supplied daily from our local butcher in
Redruth Cornwall
Distance travelled - under 15 miles from the hotel.
Fish – supplied daily from our local supplier in St
Ives mostly landed in Newlyn West Cornwall which is visible from the
Promenade Restaurant.
Distance travelled - under half a mile (Newlyn) 6 miles (St Ives)
Sweets
Ice Cream is from Kelly's in Bodmin Mid Cornwall
Distance travelled - 40 miles from the hotel
Recycling
Vegetable Oil - Sent back to South West Vegetable Oil
Paper - magazines - packaging all recycled
