World Peace Mission flyer 2017 (1)The World Peace Mission Conference 2017

The World Peace Mission annual conference will be held at The Queens Hotel, Penzance, on 25th – 26th February: Saturday 9.00 am for registration, start 10.00 am – 7.30 pm, Sunday 10.00 am – 5.00 pm.

The conference brings together a variety of international speakers and film-makers, addressing the theme of working towards peace in a world of extreme conflict. Speakers include Jon James and Camilla Carr from the “Forgiveness Project”. They travelled to Chechnya to set up a rehabilitation centre for children traumatised by war. After 3 months they were kidnapped in the night by armed Chechen rebels. Held hostage for 14 months in a dark dungeon, they experienced everything from threat of execution, multiple rape and mental torture to moments of compassion and kindness. They ask how does one forgive those who violate others? Other speakers include Archpriest Father Benedict Ramsden from the Eastern Orthodox tradition, speaking on “The Possession of Peace”; Mark Kidel will show a documentary film of the life of Ravi Shankar; Sonja Venturi, both a civil rights lawyer and a musician, describes how devotion to Sai Baba has shaped her values and work; Rev Leonora van Gills, an Inter-Faith Minister, will describe how we can accomplish world peace peacefully and not through force. There are twelve speakers in all.
