
May 21st - 23rd | SuperStock Powerboat Championship
PENZANCE is set to welcome thousands of visitors at the end of
May when the exciting spectacle of powerboat racing comes to Mount's
Bay.
Powerboat P1's new flagship British series, the SuperStock Championship
promises an action-packed weekend of racing, live music and
entertainment.
Organisers expect a crowd in excess of 20,000 people to watch the best
British powerboat pilots battle it out at the season opener.
May 22nd | Open Art Competition
Organized by Penzance chamber of commerce as part of Cornwall Business
week. The competition is open to amateurs and professionals alike as
well as children and adults. There will be prizes in numerous
categories. During the competition entrants will paint in shops , cafes
and in the street and the day will be completed by the presentation of
prizes and all paintings will be auctioned for charity.
June 20th to 28th | Golowan Festival
The annual Golowan Festival in Penzance is a celebration of ancient
Celtic traditions and midsummer feast of St John (Gol Jowan). Numerous
events take place around town, including traditional dances, street
theatre and live music. The festival culminates over the final weekend.
Mazey Day celebrations take place with fireworks, music and the mock
mayoral elections, as well as parades with huge figures and performances
throughout Penzance. On the last day of the festival, all the
entertainment moves down to the quayside.
July 3rd to 5th| Armed Forces Gala Week
The weekend will be centered at Marazion but Penzance will also be fully
involved. There will be battle re-enactments on Marazion beach 4 or 5
times a day as well as: Royal Marine beach assaults, free fall parachute
displays, flypasts, military bands and lots more. Shops in Penzance will
be decorated in honour of the Armed Forces and people working in the
shops will be dressed in either military clothing or 1940’s costume.
There will be a parade of military vehicles through Penzance and also
the opportunity to travel between Marazion and Penzance in a landing
craft.
During the summer there will be numerous events held on the promenade
and elsewhere in the town on an almost weekly basis, keep watching the

July 9th - 11th | Mousehole Sea Salts & Sail 2010 festival
There will be a chance to see these beautiful boats Sailing in Company
on Saturday and Sunday along the shores of Mounts Bay. Entertainment
includes, Jazz, Folk, Sea Shanties, Male Voice Choir, local junior
entertainers, Celtic/folk dancing etc, ending with traditional Cornish
singing. Numerous children’s activities have also been planned such as
Storytelling, Punch & Judy, a ‘Poetree Trail’, and other surprise
events.
August 30th | Newlyn Fish Festival 2010 - Bank Holiday Monday
Enjoy a wide selection of Seafood, Cooking Demonstrations, Children’s
Workshops, Fish Auctions, Open Vessels, Craft, Art and Trade stalls
together with a full programme of Music and Harbour Entertainments
including Gig Racing, Helicopters, The Penlee Lifeboat, great music and
much more!
October 23rd to 31st | Penzance Proms
The first ever music festival to be held in Penzance, the week will
comprise an electric range of music at a variety of locations throughout
Penzance. There will be both lunchtime and evening sessions as well as
various workshops throughout the day so that every one can participate.
December 13th to 20th | Montol Festival
Montol is a Festival based on the midwinter (From Advent to Candlemas)
and Nedelik (Christmas) traditions of Cornwall and in particular the
traditions of Penzance. During the week there is a wide range of
activities such as Guise Dancing, lighting the Mock, lantern parades, a
Montol Market and much more.
